Dr Matt Chamberlain Joins MSCC

Matt is a Sports and Exercise medicine senior registrar who has worked with the Australian Swimming team for the past four years. Matt attended the 2016 Rio Olympics as the Australian Swimming team’s doctor. The highlight of the Olympics for Matt was seeing Usain Bolt win the 100 metres. Matt also looks after the championship-winning Melbourne Vixens netball team. In his career, Matt has worked with the VFL (Casey Scorpions and Coburg Tigers), the AFL (Richmond Tigers, 2008-2011) and with A-league soccer and triathlons. 

Matt has an interest in the conservative management of degenerative joint conditions, functional improvement for patients, the interplay of metabolic factors and dealing with individual pain components to improve the patient’s quality of life. Outside of work Matt’s time is spent with his wife and five children, and he enjoys regular running, yoga and cross fit sessions. 

Matt joined Melbourne Stem Cell Centre in early 2016. He is currently involved in stem cell research at Melbourne Stem Cell Centre, focussing his treatment on osteoarthritis and chrondral defects.  Matt is also conducting research into the incidence of patello-femoral pain/osteoarthritis following ACL rupture and reconstruction, and investigating new MRI modalities to assess early cartilage changes in these patients.

Matt is available for appointments on alternative Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
